Negative Form

Structure:
Subject + do/does + not + base verb

Subject	Auxiliary	Example
I / You / We / They	do not (don’t)	I don’t eat rice.
He / She / It	does not (doesn’t)	She doesn’t play football.

Remember:
After doesn’t, the verb goes back to its base form.
✅ He doesn’t like milk.
❌ He doesn’t likes milk.

 

Question Form

Structure:
Do/Does + subject + base verb + ?

Short Answers:

• Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.
• Yes, she does. / No, she doesn’t.

 

Conversation

Ali: Do you like football, Amina?
Amina: No, I don’t. I like basketball.
Ali: Does your brother play basketball too?
Amina: No, he doesn’t. He plays football every weekend.
Ali: I see. Do you play after school?
Amina: Yes, I do! I play with my friends at the park.

 

Short Story: “Fatima’s Day”

Fatima lives in Hargeisa. She doesn’t get up late. She wakes up early every morning. She doesn’t drink coffee; she drinks milk instead. She goes to school by bus. Her teacher asks, “Do you study English?” Fatima smiles and says, “Yes, I do. I love English class!” After school, she helps her mother and listens to music.
