SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE (AFFIRMATIVE)

Grammar Focus

We use the Simple Present Tense to talk about:
✅ Habits
✅ Daily routines
✅ Facts and truths

Form:
Subject + Base Verb (+ s/es for he, she, it)

Examples:

  • I eat breakfast at 7 a.m.
  • She plays football.
  • They go to school every day.

 Remember:

  • Add –s to verbs after he, she, it.
  • Add –es for verbs ending in ch, sh, s, x, o (e.g., washes, fixes, goes).

 

Conversation

Ali: Hi Sara! What time do you get up?
Sara: I get up at six o’clock every morning.
Ali: Wow! You wake up early. What do you do next?
Sara: I brush my teeth and eat breakfast. Then I go to school.
Ali: Do you walk to school?
Sara: Yes, I walk with my friend Amina. We enjoy the walk.
Ali: That sounds nice! I take the bus to school.

 

Short Story: “A Day in Omar’s Life”

Omar is a student. He lives in Mogadishu. Every morning, he wakes up at 6:00 a.m. He drinks tea and eats bread for breakfast. He goes to school at 7:00 a.m. and studies hard. After school, he plays football with his friends. In the evening, he helps his mother at home and watches TV before he sleeps. Omar is a good student.
